Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Friday directed Punjab police to send progress reports on human rights cases to the Supreme Court’s (SC) registrar office on a fortnightly basis.
He also issued directions for decision on these cases within three months. The action was taken on a joint application of some Adiala Jail under-trials, says a press release issued by the CJP’s office.
Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry asked his staff to send the copy of this order to the Law Secretary with the list of cases in question. He also issued directions for procurement of the said list from the courts working under the CNS Act, 1997.
Meanwhile, the CJP condoled the death of the brother of lawyer Iqbal Haider and prayed Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in peace.
